Now that the year is nearly done, it's time to reflect on the 2011 that was. My year was fairly dull, considering money is/was still tight and I had pretty much nothing in the way of disposable income to do anything fun. I'm hoping that will change in 2012!

1. What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before? Maintained a 4.0 GPA in school, and at one point was chosen as Student of the Phase

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I had a garden this year. The thyme and basil did well, the tomatoes and peppers did so-so, and the rosemary didn't do well at all. I'm planning to do it again this year, but my main resolution for 2012 is to finish school and get a job as a pharmacy technician!

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? The wife of one of hubby's cousins had a little boy earlier this year.

4. Did anyone close to you die? My maternal grandmother. She was the last of my grandparents to die.

5. What countries did you visit? None. This year was spent entirely in-state.

6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011? A job. Discretionary income. A bit of financial stability.

7. What date from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? May 22, 2011, the day the EF-5 tornado roared through Joplin. Waiting for hubby's relatives to check in with news that they were OK was horrible, because I've come to love them as much as my own family. They were lucky, but so many others lost everything in that storm.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? I'd say that 4.0 GPA was pretty damn awesome. That, and watching Bean grow into a vivacious, imaginative little girl. It's hard to believe she starts kindergarten next year!

9. What was your biggest failure? I fell off the stop-smoking bandwagon, but that's another one of my resolutions for next year. This time, I will succeed!

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Nothing beyond a couple of colds.

11. What was the best thing you bought? My garden plants.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration? Bean learned to write her name this year! :D

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? Pretty much everyone in U.S. government.

14. Where did most of your money go? Necessities.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Nothing really, unless you count my first batch of pesto from the garden? It doesn't take much to make me happy.

16. What song will always remind you of 2011? Rolling in the Deep, by Adele. It got played everywhere, but it was one of those songs that no matter how much it got played I never tired of hearing it.

Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? happier, because I can see light at the end of the tunnel
ii. thinner or fatter? actually a wee bit thinner, but not by much
iii. richer or poorer? poorer, but I have hope that will change next year

What do you wish you'd done more of? Read more books.

What do you wish you'd done less of? Worrying

How will you be spending Christmas? I spent it at home, having a cozy day and playing with my daughter and her new toys.

Who did you spend the most time on the phone with? My mom, probably. I don't chat much on the phone, and I'm one of the dinosaurs who still hasn't joined the texting revolution.

Did you fall in love in 2011? Other than my husband? Nicolaj Coster-Waldau. Yummy, yummy man...

What was your favorite TV show? Game of Thrones, Once Upon a Time, The Walking Dead, Doctor Who.

Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? No.

What was the best book you read? A Dance with Dragons. Frey pie FTW!

What was your greatest musical discovery? Adele. Yes, I'm late to the party.

What did you want and get? A garden that didn't die!

What did you want and not get? It wasn't so much a matter of wanting and not getting than wanting and postponing for another time.

What was your favorite film of this year? Deathly Hallows, and Neville bringing the awesome.

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? I turned 43 and spent the day going to school and then having cake and ice cream at home.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? A bit more money would have been nice. Being broke all the time gets really tiring after awhile.

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011? Non-existent. I will always be a jeans and T-shirt kind of girl, and I will always hate heels.

What kept you sane? My family and friends.

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Nicolaj Coster-Waldau and Kit Harrington. Oh, so much pretty.

What political issue stirred you the most? The Occupy Wall Street protests. I'm all for it.

Who did you miss? Youngest Sis and her family, who moved to Florida earlier this year. Thanksgiving and Christmas this year just wasn't the same without them.

Who was were the best new person people you met? My classmates are awesome, funny, smart, wonderful people!

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011: One teaspoon equals 5 milliliters. If I learned nothing else in school, it's that.

Quote a song lyric that sums up your year: Don't stop believin'? Hey, it didn't say the song had to be from THIS year! :D
